Maine 2016

Tuesday, July 19, 2016      On the road again.

Last week we drove from our home in Michigan to Seabrook, New Hampshire, where our oldest son & wife, Alex & Laura moved earlier this year.  We spent a good part of the week working on their house.  We installed a new window and  kitchen cabinets.

Once that project was completed we decided to spent a week going North up the coast of Maine.  It’s a state neither of us has ever visited, but was on our bucket list.  We have three camp sites picked out, Acadia National Park being the Northern most.

We left Seabrook this morning and headed to our first stop, Winslow Memorial Park by Freeport, Maine.  The intent was to take US1 along the coast all the way, but most of the way the road wound through nothing but packed tourist towns.  We never did get a view of the ocean, but passed plenty of strip malls, motels and 100’s of restaurants with traffic lights at every street corner.  After some 30 miles of that we jumped on the toll road until we were North of Portland, ME before getting back on US1.  This turned out to be the right choice for us.  This was more the Maine we were used to seeing in the travel magazines.  Our destination, Winslow Park turned out to be a gem.  We have a beautiful spot right on Casco Bay, near Freeport ME, also home of LL Bean.  Weather is ptly. Sunny with temps in the 70’s.  Plans are to spent three days here.
