Charlestown State Park, IN

Posted on Updated on

This morning we left home and headed South to Charlestown State Park in Indiana.  The 7 hour trip took us to the park located just North of Louisville, KY along the Ohio River.  The large  park has miles of trails and roads for biking and hiking.  It is located on property that from 1940 – 1995 was an US Army Ammunition Plant.  There are lots of old abandoned buildings from that era in the park.  The campground itself is less then 20 years old, and each site is fairly private with electrical hook-up.  The reason for picking this park is that it is located less than 10 miles from the Louisville, KY Amazon Fulfillment Center, where we’re schedule to take a guided tour tomorrow.

When traveling in the winter we prefer camp sites that do not have electric hook-up because those sites tend to be quieter then those that have full hook-up. The trailer is set up with solar panels, usually providing all our daily electricity requirements but it does not provide enough to power the A/C.  Going South this time of the year requires electricity for our A/C and we pick our campsite accordingly.
